Child Protection
For many, once a girl child reaches adolescence around the age of 12, and lives in poverty, in the eyes of her local community, she’s now a woman. She faces the reality of being married by the age of 14, pregnant by the time she is 15 and if she survives childbirth, she might then have to sell her body to support her family which then puts her at risk for contracting and spreading HIV.
Early marriage, female circumcision, physical and sexual abuse, the Familia Foundation rescues girls from the streets, saving them from prostitution, child trafficking and other abuse.
Familia supports children in a safe and loving family environment. The girls are provided with food, clothing and shelter plus any medical needs. They have access to professional and legal counselling supplemented by life skills tuition. They are tutored in children’s rights and responsibilities so they may positively contribute to both local community and larger society. They return to education empowered and uplifted with a healthier prospect for an aspiring future.
